Ron: No, Alice! Not really, but I wouldn’t mind some pancakes with strawberry jam! 
Alice: I wouldn’t mind pancakes either! But sorry, we’ve got neither eggs nor milk to make them! What we can make is either spaghetti or sandwiches with ham and cheese. 
Ron: You know what I’ll choose, don’t you?
Alice: Oh, yeah! I know that you’re happy to eat spaghetti three times a day! Ok. I’ll have it too, so as not to cook anything else. Would you like your spaghetti with some sauce or with salad?
Ron: With tomato sauce, please. 
Alice: It would be nice of you to help me set a table.

Mark: Yeah. I don’t like maths, actually — too monotonous. But after that we’ve got science – it makes things better!
Jess: Yeah, you are good at science. Probably, the best in the class.
Mark: It’s because I enjoy it most of all! Science explains how the world works. It’s fantastic. Like magic!
Jess: Probably. I like neither maths nor science. I don’t mind French, but grammar drills make me feel so bored.
Mark: Me too. By the way, have you finished that project in French?
Jess: Mmm, not yet.

Kate: My Spanish course.
James: Cool. Your new hobby? It’s a shame I can’t speak any foreign languages. My brother is learning French. He eventries to write poems in French.
Kate: There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Some people enjoy learning languages, others are good at other things. As for you — you’ve got a great talent for roller skating!
James: I won’t argue. I won the first prize in the City Rollers’ competition, by the way.
Kate: Congratulations!

Ben: Any plans for tomorrow, Sue? I’m going to the swimming pool. How about joining me? 
Sue: No, Ben, thank you. I’ve got a cold and the swimming pool is the last place I would like to go to.
Ben: Oh, sorry! I didn’t know. Probably, you should see the doctor tomorrow. 
Sue: No, no need. It’s not that serious. I just feel like staying at home tomorrow, watching a film, having tea with lemon. Just a lazy day.
Ben: Sounds tempting. Especially in weather like this. It’s absolutely freezing outside and will be worse tomorrow. 
Sue: How about joining me?
Ben: Sorry, I can’t miss my training session whatever the weather is like.

Nick: No, he’s alright as well as his toys. He just wants to play with his cars with me. 
Ann: Why don’t you play with him then?
Nick: Look, Ann, we played with these cars in the morning and yesterday, and the day before yesterday. I’m sick and tired of his toys. He’s got a garage with toy cars and mum keeps buying them again and again. 
Ann: But he’s little and so cute! It’s normal he enjoys playing with his older brother, isn’t it? 
Nick: OK, I’ll let you play with him for a change. You’re his older cousin. Go on, go on! Show me how to do this!

Joanna: Why, what happened? 
Tim: I lost my phone, I must have left it somewhere. So I had to buy a new one together with the sim-card. Just a minute. I’ll call you and you’ll get my number. And why did you call? 
Joanna: Mia and I are going on a picnic this Sunday. Care to join us? 
Tim: Sure. Sounds like fun.

Kate Hi, Ron! I called you on Sunday but you didn’t answer. Were you out of town?  
Ron: Yes, we went to the city for a brief entertaining trip, as mum called it. 
Kate: Wow! Was it fun? 
Ron: Absolutely not. I had plans to see the motoraces, they’ve just built a new mototrack, and you know how much I love motorbike competitions but my sister spoilt a whole day. 
Kate: How could she? She is a sweet little girl. 
Ron: She is, but she wanted to go to the zoo. Mum could not disappoint her. 
Kate: I’m so sorry, but it’s not the worst scenario ever. When we went for a holiday last time, I got a cold and spent six days inside in the hotel room.

Harry: What are you doing this summer, Jess?
Jess: We haven’t got any definite plans yet, Harry. We may go to my aunt’s house. She lives in France. 
Harry:  Sounds great. 
Jess: I love it too. But mum insists I’m going to Berlin. She wants me to practise German. I don’t like the idea and my German is ok anyway. 
Harry: Don’t you like Germany?
Jess: I definitely prefer the French countryside to Germany or Britain and I’ve got cousins there. We usually have so much fun together. 
Harry: And you can practise your French there, can’t you?
Jess: Not really. My cousins are learning English and want me to speak English so that they can practise.

Ken: Hi, Sue! Are you shopping for sportswear?
Sue: Yes. I’ve bought a tracksuit for myself and a couple of tennis shirts for my brother. He’s taking part in a tournament soon but his old shirts are too small already. And what have you bought? Is it a glove for boxing?
Ken: No! I did some boxing years ago but that sport is not for me.
Sue: It looks cruel to me though some people find it exciting.
Ken: Right.
Sue: And what’s the glove for then?
Ken: It’s a baseball glove. I’ve joined our school baseball team.
Sue: Congrats!
Ken: Too early. I’m just a beginner in this game. My first training session is tomorrow and I’m feeling nervous.

Lucy: Oh, Sam! We returned yesterday! Our flight was delayed by five hours! Can you imagine that?
Sam: Yes, I can. Delays and crowds in the airport are the reasons why we prefer cars to planes. We’re going to the seaside on Friday by car, of course.
Lucy: Right! The cars are convenient in many ways! 
Sam: We also need to take lots of luggage, including diving masks, flippers and my surfboard. The car will hold all of that. 
Lucy: Looks like it’s going to be a great holiday! Send me photos, will you? Now I need to be off for the train station! My granny is arriving on the 6 o’clock train.

Leo: Ok. Let’s meet up in the design room after classes, it will take a few minutes to write the wishes.

Leo: Are you planning to send her just a card or a present too? 
Ann: A special souvenir, I bought it long ago.

Jane: No, Frank, I’m not.  But the exhibition is about the history of our town and I have to do a project on it. 
Frank: I see. You collect the information for the project.

Frank: Right. Any plans for tonight? 
Jane: I don’t know yet. It’s cold and rainy. Nasty weather. 
Frank: My sister said it’s a sort of weather for knitting and drawing. 
Jane: I hate both. What I like is making cakes, pies and biscuits. 
Frank: Oh, cooking! It sounds more original than drawing and much tastier.

Mr. Brooks: Hi, Susan. How was your first day at the language school? Was it easy to find it? 
Susan: Yes, I followed your directions. Took bus 22 and got off at the stop City Centre, that’s it!
Mr. Brooks: Good.
Susan: The tutor said there used to be a university campus but it was too far from the centre. Students staying with host families had problems getting there. So, they moved the school. 
Mr. Brooks: Which was clever of them. But the air is better in the suburbs, of course. In the city the traffic’s too heavy. 
Susan: Oh, the windows of our classroom were closed because of the noise from the traffic.

Emma: Hey, Sam! Sorry, I didn’t notice you. To my music class. It starts in ten minutes. 
Sam: I won’t keep you long. You’ll get to your violin class on time.
Emma: Fine, but I don’t play the violin. I chose the drums though my mum was very much against it.
Sam: And I can understand why. Most girls play the piano, violin or sometimes the guitar. It’s sort of a conventional joy. 
Emma: Right!
Sam: But playing the drums is much cooler! 
Emma: Absolutely! But I really need to go, Sam. Come to our rehearsal. I’ve been accepted into a band as a new drummer and we are rehearsing for the Christmas show.

Mike: Yeah, but I don’t think I did well, Linda.
Linda: But you’ve always been good at Maths.
Mike:  Not today. I feel sick and can’t concentrate. We went to the cinema for a late-night-show yesterday.
Linda: That was not a very clever thing to do. I hope at least the film was interesting. Anyway, you need to go to bed early tonight.
Mike:  Which is impossible. Remember about Tim’s birthday party? The whole class is invited. And after that, I’ll have to get on with my project in science to complete it tonight.
Linda:  I’m sure you’ll manage.

Alice: Hi, Mark! I’m Alice. I’d like to join your fitness centre. 
Mark: Very good. What activity do you enjoy? Swimming, aerobics, yoga or dancing?
Alice: Well, I don’t like swimming. Aerobics is too exhausting and difficult. I’d prefer yoga. I’ve never participated in it before but I’ve heard it’s good for the body and for the spirit. 
Mark: Yes, that’s right. I can enroll you in our class for beginners. 
Alice: Yes, that’s fine. Do you have to bring my own yoga mat or do you provide it here?
Mark: Wait a moment, Alice. I’ll introduce you to our instructor. She’ll explain everything.

Fred: How about an excursion this weekend, Kate? We’ve been here for two weeks but haven’t seen anything except from the school library. 
Kate: Good idea, Fred! I’ve heard there’s a big aquarium in this city.
Fred: It’s near the port. Too far from the centre! We won’t have enough time to get there and pack. What I suggest is a guided walking tour in the historical centre. 
Kate: It’s offered by the student’s centre, isn’t it? I wouldn’t mind it either. I’ll contact them today to reserve two places for us in the group. Shall I? 
Fred: Yes, thank you! I also thought about a sea boat trip but everything is reserved for a month ahead.

Emma: Hi, Neil! I’m calling to ask you a favour. All my family are going to the seaside.
Neil: Lucky you! Have a nice holiday!
Emma: Thanks! But since everyone’s leaving, there’s no one at home to take care of my pet. And we can’t take him with us.
Neil: Sorry, Emma, I can’t help you there. Our rule is neither cats nor dogs in our house. They make me cough and sneeze, which can lead to some dangerous syndromes.
Emma: Oh, I’m not talking about cats or dogs. It’s just a little bird — a parrot. 
Neil: That makes things different, I’m not allergic to birds. And I don’t mind having your bird as a guest in our house. It’ll be fun.

Lisa: No. Unfortunately not. I’m taking part in a cycling ride. I can’t let down the team.
Alan: Of course, you can’t. I wish your cycling club success. By the way, don’t you have a spare backpack? Mine’s torn apart and I won’t have time to buy a new one till Saturday.
Lisa: Yes, you can take my rucksack. Do you remember my green one with lots of pockets? It’s big enough and very strong. I can also give you a tent if you want.
Alan: No-no! We’ve got enough tents. And I’m really grateful for the rucksack. It’ll save me lots of time. Let me know if you need anything.
Lisa:  Ok, I will!
