задание 38

Imagine that you are doing a project on what causes animal extinction in Zetland. You have found some data on the subject — the results of a survey (see the table below). Comment on the survey data and give your opinion on the subject of the project.

The survey question: What causes animal extinction in Zetland?

CausesNumber of respondents (%)
Natural habitat loss40
Mining activities23
Diseases15
Pollution12
Climate change10

Write 200–250 words.

Use the following plan:
– make an opening statement on the subject of the project;
– select and report 2–3 facts;
– make 1–2 comparisons where relevant and give your comments;
– outline a problem that can arise with protecting animals and suggest a way of solving it;
– conclude by giving and explaining your opinion on the importance of animal protection.

Unfortunately nowadays there are a lot of animals which are on the brink of dying out. The project I am currently working on is aimed at finding out what causes animal extinction in Zetland. I have found a table with the results of a survey. I am going to comment on the survey and give my opinion on the subject of the project.

According to the table answering the question «what causes animal extinction in Zetland?» as many as 23 % of respondents believe that mining activities are responsible for animal extinction. Pollution is another reason that leads to animal extinction, at 12%, followed by climate change, at 10%. (A minority of the survey participants think animal extinction is caused by climate change, 10%)

It is clear from the table that the percentage of respondents who think that natural habitat loss causes animal extinction  is significantly higher than the corresponding rate for those who are sure diseases cause animal extinction (40% and 10% respectively). This is not surprising as due to habitat loss animals lose essential resources like food, shelter and mates. Moreover, natural habitat loss causes ongoing and widespread damage to animal populations unlike diseases.

Regrettably, some problems may arise with protecting animals.

One of them is the lack of funding and resources. Conservation organisations do not have enough money to buy food and pay for medical care. In addition there is not enough personnel and necessary equipment. To solve this problem they may organise some charity events to attract public attention and raise money to help the animals.

In conclusion( to conclude), It is important to protect animals because they play vital roles in maintaining healthy ecosystems that humans and all life depend on. Without protecting animals, ecosystems can collapse, which threatens the survival of many species, including humans.
